“Policing is a calling, it’s not a job. Not everybody can do this job,” banggit ni Sergeant Maria Keen, na halos tatlong dekada nang parak.
“They were looking for students that were diverse to expose them to police work in hopes that they would join the police. I had no intentions of being a police officer, to be honest, that was just a summer job for me. And then, I worked in the police, with the Ottawa Police and then went on a ride along a few of them and enjoyed it and said, ‘Oh my gosh, this is the job I wanna do’,” ani Keen, sa TFC News.
“Ottawa, at the time, wasn’t as diverse as Toronto and then coming to the police service being the first radicalized female, I didn’t realize that until people pointed it out to me.”
“It’s been very inclusive especially since they realize that diversity is important. Throughout my career, I’ve had to translate Tagalog into English. They know speaking another language and coming from a different culture does make a difference when you go to certain calls.” (Riley Cea)
