Sandra Oh palaban kina Moss, Foy, Wood, Russell, Mislany
Sa 70 years ng Emmy Awards, si Sandra Oh pa lang ang kauna-unahang Asian woman na ma-nominate sa category na Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series para sa Killing Eve na produced ng BBC America.
Sa Killing Eve, gumaganap si Oh nilang si MI6 agent Eve Polastri, an investigator who becomes obsessed with the female assassin she’s hunting down.
Hindi ito ang unang pagkakataon na ma-nominate ni Oh sa Emmy dahil na-nominate na siya ng limang beses sa supporting actress category para sa medical drama na Grey’s Anatomy.
Nagsalita na noon ang 46-year old Canadian-Korean tungkol sa discrimination against Asian actors in Hollywood. Ang madalas daw na i-offer sa kanyang ng mga producer ay roles as the friend or the sidekick.
Kaya laking gulat niya nang alukin siya ng BBC America na maging bida sa series na Killing Eve.
“It’s a heartbreak that I feel for my community of Asian-Americans and people who are just not represented, who are not reflected.
“I remember quickly scrolling through my phone, trying to find my part, and I’m talking to my agent like, ‘I don’t get it. What’s the part?’
“Because I was like, I can’t play an assassin, obviously it’s gonna be a young hot girl, I don’t get it, what’s my part?” pag-alala pa ni Oh.
Makakalaban ni Oh sa lead actress category ay sina Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), Claire Foy (The Crown), Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld), Keri Russell (The Americans) at Tatiana Mislany (Orphan Black). ()
