PERANG HINDI BITIN: Pera tip: Pag-aayuno sa paggastos (Fasting on spending)

From January 9 to 14, 2017, marami sa amin na nag-ayuno sa pagkain ng three meals a day. Some skipped three meals and just took water. Ang iba nag-juice or liquid fast — taking only fruit juice, milk or soup.

Pero puwede ring mag-ayuno or fast from objects, habits or attitudes.

Kagaya ng ginawa ko. Nag-liquid fast ako — “eating” only juice, shakes/smoothies, and soup (once a day). Tapos, I also fasted on my beloved NBA basketball app.

Higit pa riyan, she decided to fast from SHOPPING! Walang bili dito, walang bili diyan!

Hallelujah!

Walang shopping or buying of anything for one whole week! (Except grocery lang). Wow.

Because of this Miriam had more time to pray and focus on the Lord. Hindi lang ‘yan, fasting from shopping is a great way to save and discipline yourself for financial freedom.

I-imagine mo na mag-ayuno sa pagbili at paggastos ng isang linggo hindi lang once a year, pero how about every month!

Magkano kaya ang matitipid natin?

Hindi lang iyon, fasting from spending helps bring us to a place of contentment. ‘Pag nasanay ka na hindi bumili ng gamit, damit, etc, you realize that there are many things in our life na hindi pala natin kailangan.

Ano kaya? What else can we fast on?

COMPLAINING. Mag-ayuno sa pagrereklamo. Instead we would cultivate gratefulness. Tapos ang attitude of gratitude, ika nga, cultivates good health. Ang good health naman results in savings on medical expenses sa ating kinabukasan. (Actually, my son Joshua fasted from complaining and whining during our prayer and fasting week. Ang laki ng kanyang change of attitude!)

T.V. and CABLE.

Ibig sabihin, puwede mong i-cancel ang iyong cable TV subscription and save about P700 a month or P8,400 a year. If you invest that P8,400 in a mutual fund or UITF (e.g. an equity fund managed by your bank) for the next 10 years and the fund is earning an average of 10% ROI annually, then your decision to not watch TV for one year and the following 9 years, will earn you not just P84,000 at the end of 10 years but P162,807.76! (Including earnings from placements.) I practice what I preach and we’ve cancelled our cable subscription and will be investing the savings in business or in our bank’s equity fund.

Marami pang puwede pagkakitaan from fasting of objects or habits, kagaya ng paggastos. For example, fast from drinking (softdrinks or beer), smoking, gambling, buying lotto tickets, unhealthy foods (junk food), etc. Do that and you’ll be on your way to a blessed new year and life.

(“The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. But I have come so that you may have life and have it to the fullest.”)

Gusto ni Lord na magkaroon ka ng peace and eternal life, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whomsoever believes in Him, will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). Commit and entrust your life to Jesus Christ and live a life of fullness, contentment and in union with the Father, eternally. Gusto mo ba iyan?

Pray this prayer sincerely in your heart:

I confess that I am a sinner. Naniniwala ako that You died on the cross to pay for all my sins.

Please come into my life and be my Savior and my Lord. I accept Your gift of eternal life.

Come into my life and help me become the kind of person You want me to be. Salamat, salamat at ikaw ay napakabuti!

This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
