“Declaring the Atimonan One power plant an EPNS is Meralco’s latest trick to get backdoor approval for the overpriced power supply agreement (PSA) that Meralco awarded without bidding to Atimonan One,” paliwanag ni Colmenares.

“The EPNS short-cut for Atimonan One, if approved, will be a mockery of government’s rationale for facilitating the processing of energy projects with significant contribution to the economy,” dagdag pa nito.

“We do agree that the PSA between Meralco and A1E is indeed significant. However it is significant for the wrong reasons; and because of the wrong reasons, this contract should be scrapped,” saad pa ni Colmenares.

“For instance, the Meralco PSA will significantly increase the cost of Meralco electricity to P5.66 per kilowatt-hour, or up to P2/kwh more expensive than the rate declared by Meralco and A1E in their PSA application,” paglinaw pa ng Bayan Muna solon.
