Kakulangan ng doktor sa mga senior citizen pinuna ni Angara

Pinuna ni Senador Sonny Angara ang higit na kakulangan ng bansa sa geriatricians o mga espesyalis­tang nakatutok sa kalusugan ng mga matatanda.

Base sa data report ng Retirement and Healthcare Coalition, sinabi ni Angara na 140 geriatric doctors lamang ang kasalukuyang nag-ooperate sa bansa na walang katuwang na mga specialized geriatric nurse.

“Assuming that there are around 8 million senior citi­zens in the country, a geriatric doctor is tasked to cater to the varied and immediate needs of around 57,000 elderlies. This means that if they wanted to attend to everyone, a doctor will have to see around 150 senior citi­zen patients for 365 days straight,” ani Angara.

Sa 140 na geriatric doctor sa bansa, kalahati rito ang tinatayang walang actual clinic o hospital experience dahil sa kakulangan ng pasilidad at training center para dito.

“There needs to be a venue where our geriatricians can hone their skills,” ani Angara.
