NAKAHIRIT ng draw si Pinoy GM Rogelio ‘Joey’ Antonio Jr. habang nagwagi naman si IM Angelo Young sa 1st round ng FIDE World Seniors 2019 Chess Championships Martes ng gabi Grand Hotel sa Bucharest, Romania.

Nakipaghatian ng puntos si 57-year-old Antonio kay Kazakh IM Aitkazy Baimurzin matapos ang 30 moves ng Reti Opening game sa 50-and-above category.

Lamang sa opening ang Quezon City resident at 13-time Philippine Open champion subalit nagkamali ng sulong kaya nauwi sa draw ang kanyang laro.
“The first round is one of the toughest rounds in any tournament. It usually sets the tone of how you’re going to perform,” sabi ni 18th seed Antonio. “We hope to perform well in this event.”
