DiCaprio humarap sa korte dahil sa financial scandal

Sikretong nag-testify ang Hollywood actor na si Leonardo DiCaprio sa harap ng isang grand jury dahil sa ginagawang imbestigasyon ng US Department of Justice sa 1Malaysia Development Board (1MDB) financial ­scandal.

Humarap ang aktor sa grand jury na ginanap sa Washington DC noong nakaraang taon.

Pinaghahanap kasi ang fugitive na si Low Taek Jho na ­siyang target ng probe na ito.

“Grand jury proceedings are secret, so it is unclear exactly what DiCaprio told grand jurors. Also unclear is how authorities got him into and out of the fe­deral courthouse without drawing notice,” ayon sa report.

Kabilang si DiCaprio sa ilang Hollywood A-listers na naging kaibigan ni Jho at binigyan nito ng mga mamahaling regalo.

Niregaluhan ni Jho si DiCaprio ng nabili nito sa isang auction na Oscar statuette ni Marlon Brando (for the 1954 film On The Waterfront) at isang Picasso painting na nagkakahalaga ng $3.2 million.

Parehong sinurender ng aktor ang mga ito sa US authorities noong pumutok na sa ­media ang scandal ni Jho.

Ang perang ninakaw ni Jho ay ginamit sa pag-finance ng pelikula ni DiCaprio na “The Wolf of Wall Street” noong 2013. Pinasalamatan pa ni Leo si Jho noong manalo ito ng Golden Globe best actor.

Kinasuhan ang Malaysian national na si Low Taek Jho ng US federal court in absentia noong nakaraang taon with theft and money laundering.

Similar charges have been brought against former executives of 1MDB and US financial institution, Goldman Sachs, that facilitated the sovereign funds bond issues which led to the allegations.
