Cayetano, Alvarez nilaglag ng 54 congressman

TULUYAN nang nilag­lag ng 54-man Party-list Coalition sila dating Foreign Affairs secretary at Taguig-Pateros Congressman-elect Alan Peter Cayetano at dating House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez sa kanilang listahan ng mga pagpipilian para sa susunod na lider ng Mababang Kapulungan pagpasok ng ika-18 Kongreso sa Hulyo.

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni House Assistant Majority Floor Leader and Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta Party-list Rep. Jericho Nograles na tanging sila reelected Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco and incoming Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez na lamang ang pinagpipilian na susunod na magiging Speaker ng Kamara kung tatanu­ngin hindi lamang ang liderato kundi maging ang mayorya ng mga miyembro ng party-list bloc

“Our choice is down to two. Velasco or Romualdez. This will be a tough decision to make because both of them are close to our hearts but we will definitely choose the speaker who can treat us justly and fairly,” saad ni Nograles.

Ayon kay Nograles, nagpasya ang karamihan ng mga miyembro ng kanilang grupo na kina Velasco at Romualdez na lamang ibaling ang kanilang atensyon sapagkat silang dalawa lamang ang seryoso sa kanilang mga pa­ngako at plataporma na makakabuti para sa kowalisyon.

Paliwanag ni Nograles, tanging sina Velasco at Romualdez lang umano sa mata ng mga miyembro ng Party-list Coalition Foundation, Inc. (PCFI) ang tatrato ng parehas sa kanila grupo at hindi sila gagawing “second class citizens” kumpara sa ibang mga Speaker-wannabes.

“[It’s] the prevailing sentiment (among vast majority) of the members of the party-list bloc is that of those who are being floated as possible candidates for the Speakership, Velasco and Romualdez are the only ones who have strong connections with Partylist groups,” giit ni Nograles

“Some of the wannabes who have tried to reach out to us obviously have a different view about party-list groups. Parang mababa ang tingin sa amin,” dagdag pa ng kongresista. (JC Cahinhinan)
