Greetings to ABANTE Readers, Philippines-wide and Earth-wide from the foothills of Mount Samat, in the scenic and historic town of Pilar, Bataan.
Pilar, Bataan is among the 309 Local Government Units (Municipal & City) in 61 provinces, in 15 Regions in Mindanao, Visayas & Luzon which are involved in the program ‘Pagkain ni Boss’, Integrated Community Food Production (ICFP) of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) under the Office of the President.
The Orientation & Planning Workshop ng ICFP/NAPC held at St. Gabriel Hotel & Resort, Barangay Liyang, Pilar on June 3, 2016 was the first for the 8 Municipalities of Bataan: Pilar, Dinalupihan, Hermosa, Orani, Samal, Abucay, Bagac & Morong.
The Pilar, Bataan ICFP Team is composed of: Mayor Alicia D. Pizarro, Chairperson; Rafael Jun Paguio, Local Poverty Reduction Action Team- Co- Chairperson, Municipal Agriculturist (Lead Convenor) Godofredo Espiritu; Technical Assistant-MAO (ICFP Focal Person) Melissa De Leon; Municipal Nutrition Action Officer- Ramela Buensuceso; ICFP Community Coordinators: Teresa Lapuz, Criselda Empeno; Cicil Society Organization LPRAT Members: Benjamin Groela, Marita Navata, Evelyn Ferrol, Imelda Desales.
Facilitators of the Program were Robert Vera Cruz, Bataan ICFP Provincial Focal Person & Julie Ann Roquin, MAO Technical Assistant. And Ireneo Santiago, Barangay Chairman, Liyang, Pilar gave the welcome address and Melissa De Leon introduced the participants and guests.
Mayor Alicia D. Pizarro, LPRAT Chairperson expressed appreciation for her re-election as well as highlighted the role and participation of Civil Society Organization in governance as well as in the programs and projects for the benefits of the poor, hungry, malnourished and the sickly.
The partners and beneficiaries of the ‘Pagkain ni Boss’ Integrated Community Food Production from Barangay Liyang. The Overview of the NAPC/ICFP Program and Implementing Guidelines was delivered by Anselmo Moi Garcia , Senior Technical Officer II & Team Leader for Luzon of the National Anti-Poverty Commission.
Dr. Jose P.M. Cunanan discussed the Technical Management of the ICFP on Vegetable Gardening and Crop Management: Home and Community Vegetable Gardening focused on Bahay Kubo: Original Filipino Micro-Variety Farming System, Unique and the only one world-wide: 18 vegetables in one stanza: Singkamas at talong, sigarilyas at mani; sitaw, bataw, patani, kundol, patola, upo, kalabasa. At saka mayroon pa: labanos, mustasa, sibuyas, kamatis, bawang, luya…linga. The importance of the BALAG (Trellis) for the V5; Venture in Variety of Vertical Vine Vegetables (Halamang Baging) was highlighted for the climber crops and sustainable food production.
Also, additional 5 stanzas were sung by the participants. And shared the action-prayer with SIGLA: An Original Filipino Exercise for Body, Mind & Spirit.
Resource Person for Poultry and Livestock was Dr. Venerando Catarroja, Veterinarian and President of Bahay Kubo Global System and Engr. Dionicio Antonio, Bulacan Provincial Focal Person on Organic Fertilizer Production of Vermiculture. And Ms. Ma.Luisa Rodis, Bataan Provincial Coordinator- High Value Crop Development Program discussed My H.O.P.E. sa Gulayan/Food Always in the Home.
Municipal Agrculturist Godofredo Espiritu announced that the ICFP partners/beneficiaries will be given: vegetable seeds, fruit tree seedlings, garden tools, chicken/ducks, goats as part of the project. A contest for the Model Kubo /Balag will be conducted among the Liyang participants with corresponding prizes.
