Bahay Kubo: First Anniversary: Timpuyog it Babbalasang Idi kalman-Nueva Viscaya

On invitation of Nueva Viscaya Board Member Roland M. Carub, LL. B. we joined the celebration of the First Anniversary of Timpuyog it Babbalasang Idi kalman-Nueva Viscaya (Gathering of Women of Yesterday) on June 30, 2017 (Friday) held at the LGU Gymnasium, Ibung, Villaverde, Nueva Viscaya.
The objectives of Timpuyog ti Babbalasang Idi Kalman-Nueva Viscaya as defined by NVBM Roland M. Carub are:
1. Organize the women and their empowerment for sustainable food production and alternative livelihood.
2. Advocate and promote Natural and Organic Agriculture, a model and showcase on the Barangay level in production fresh vegetables and fruits for a health and nutrition as well as farm complements of natural fertilizer and pesticide.
3. Serve as a demonstration farm and a training center for courses on Bahay Kubo farm planning, development, technology and management.
4. Promote Rural and Urban (Rurban) Agro-Industrialisation, Trading and Tourism, local, national and international.
Dr. J.P.M. Cunanan was tasked to be the Lead Person in the Bahay Kubo-Making and Garden Contest comprising of a Nipa Hut and the 18 vegetables in the Filipino folksong “Bahay Kubo, kahit munti, ang halaman doon ay sari-sari: Singkamas at talong, sigarilyas at mani, sitaw, bataw, patani, kundol, patola, upo’t kalabasa; at saka mayroon pa: labanos, mustasa, sibuyas, kamatis, bawang at luya, sa paligid-ligid ay puno ng linga.”
On Thursday, 29 June 2017: we visited, monitored and evaluated the participating Timpuyog it Babbalasang Idi kalman in the following Barangays : Bintawan Sur, Ibung, Nagbitin, Sawmill and Pogonsino.
The Team included: Rev. Severino Carub, Rev. Rona Galima, Engr. Jonathan Nuestro, DOST, Engr. Ronnie Jay Billawit, DOST, Romulo Salagubang, John Mark Tubaran, Roland M. Carub, Jose P.M. Cunanan, Bahay Kubo Global System.
For the events of the 1st Anniversary of Timpuyog it Babbalasang Idi kalman-Nueva Viscaya included a Parade around the towns and barangays, greetings from the various provincial, congressional, municipal and barangay officials and sponsors and guests.
Various contests and awards were also conducted: Beauty Contest, Cooking Contest and Dance Contest. Each of the Chapters also brought vegetables, fruits and products from their areas.
Awards and Prizes, the Office of Nueva Viscaya Board Member Roland M. Carub, friends and sponsors were given: Start-up cash, certificates, free seminar and livelihood training.
For the Bahay Kubo Contest, the Awardees were: 2017 Champions: Three Stars: Bintawan Sur and Ibung; Two Stars: Sawmill; One Star Honorable Mentions: Nagbitin and Pogonsino.
The project pioneered by NVBM Roland M. Carub as to the motif/ theme of the Bahay Kubo for the farm contest is commendable and worth emulating Philippines-wide: Mindanao, Visayas, Luzon: 7,107 Islands, 42,026 Barangays, 80 Provinces, 140 Cities, 1494 Municipalities; 100+ Million Filipinos, Families and Friends Earth-wide.
The Bahay Kubo as a gardening system is unique world-wide. It is the only agriculture system that has 18 vegetables in one stanza: micro, variety, multi-level production, and with the Balag technology: variety of vertical vine vegetables which are high nutrient and high value.
We hope that others will see the value and importance of the Bahay Kubo in food production for health, nutrition and livelihood.
