Ancajas, kabilang sa 23 major awardee ng PSA

Isang espesyal na araw ang ibibigay para sa mga atletang Pinoy na nagbigay ng karangalan sa bansa sa nagdaang 2018.

Sa gaganaping SMC-PSA (Philippine Sportswriter Association) Annual Awards Night sa February 26 sa Manila Hotel, paparangalan sina reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas, World Boxing Organization (WBO) counterpart Donnie Nietes, World Artistic Gymnastics Championships bronze medallist Carlos Yulo, at ang Philippine Para Chess Team kasama pa ang ilang nagkampeon sa Asian Para Games bilang bahagi ng mga major awardee sa nasabing event.

Matatandaan na noong nakaraang taon, tatlong beses naidepensa ni Ancajas ang kanyang IBF 115-lb title, samantalang nakopo naman ni Nietes ang WBO belt bago pumasok ang 2019.

Si Yulo ang naging kauna-unahang Pinoy at Southeast male gymnast na nagwagi sa world meet, at gumawa naman ng kasayasayan ang Philippine Para Team na binubuo nina Ernie Gawilan (para swimmer), Arthus Bucay (para cycling), Kim Ian Chi (para bowling), Sander Severino (para chess) at Para Chess Team matapos makasungkit ng 10 gold sa Asian Para Games sa Indonesia.

Ang iba pang kikilanin sa nasabing awarding ceremony na sinuportahan ng Phili­ppine Basketball Association (PBA), Rain or Shine, ICTSI, NorthPort, SM Prime Holdings, at Chooks To Go, ay sina Thirdy Ravena (amateur basketball), San Miguel Beer (pro basketball team), Meggie Ochoa (jiu-jitsu), Christian Tio (kiteboarding), El Joshua Carino (cycling), Arnel Mandal (wushu), at sina Jannery Millet at Milo Rivera (motorsports).

Kasali rin sa listahan ang Team Manila at Tanauan Little League (softball), Philippine dragon boat team, O’Neal Cortez (Jockey of the Year), at Sepfourteen (Horse of the Year).

Tatanggap ng Lifetime Achievement Award sina bowling legend Bong Coo at cycling champion Paquito Rivas, samantalang may Special Awards sina June Mar Fajardo (Mr Basketball), Marck Espejo (Mr Volleyball), Jaja Santiago (Ms. Volleyball), at Neil Etheridge (Mr Football).
