Alyssa, women’s squad makakaliskisan ngayon

MALALAMAN simula ngayong araw, Agosto 19, kung nagbunga ang dalawang linggong training camp ng Philippine women’s volleyball team sa Japan sa pagsalang sa kanilang u­nang asignatura sa 18th Asian Games sa Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia.

Biyernes nang gabi ay nag-ensayo sa unang pagkakataon sa Indonesia ang tropa ni coach Shaq Delos Santos matapos ang biyahe mula Osaka-Manila-Indonesia sa loob lamang ng 24 oras.

Ayon kay Shaq, nagpapagpag pa ng fatigue ang kanyang mga player pero umaasa siyang babalik na agad ang kondis­yon ng mga ito.

“We all know how they play, and for us, it’s their conditioning that’s missing. But what’s important is that we got to work out and we were able to do the necessary drills. Hopefully, we can recover and we can apply what we learned in Japan,” sambit ni Delos Santos sa panayam ng ESPN TV5.

Para kay veteran spiker Alyssa Valdez, anumang pagod na kanilang pinagdadaa­nan ngayon ay sulit kaya gagawin nila ang lahat upang magpakita ng maganda sa Asiad.

“I think there are rewards for our sacrifice for the country, and as an athlete, we live for moments like this.

It’s very tiring but at the same time, this pushes us to keep on going. We’re just really happy [to be] given this opportunity, because of course not everyone is given an opportunity to represent the country,” wika ni Alyssa.

Huling lumahok ang PH women’s volley team sa Asian Games 36 taon na ang nakakaraan.
