UMAABOT na sa 4,566 ang nahuli habang 3,807 iba’t ibang kalibre ng baril, 256 na granada, 500 Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at 32,000 rounds ng mga bala mula sa iba’t ibang kalibre ng baril ang nakumpiska ng Philippine National Police (PNP) sa patuloy na implementas­yon ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.

Ayon kay PNP chief General Oscar Alba­yalde, ang midterm elections ay gagawin sa Mayo 13 subalit tatagal pa ang gun ban hanggang Enero 12.

“As of today, our continuing campaign against violators of the Comelec-imposed election gunban has resulted in the arrest of 4,566 offenders and the confiscation of 3,807 firearms, 256 grenades, 500 explosive devices, 32,000 rounds of live ammunition, and 1,554 other deadly weapons,” pahayag ni Albayalde sa isinagawang press briefing kahapon sa Camp Crame.

Dagdag pa ng opis­yal na bukod sa 75 hanggang 80 porsi­yento ng PNP personnel, magdadagdag naman ng may 40,000 tropa ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) para sigurihin ang katahimikan at kaayusan ng paparating na eleksyon.

“As the campaign period for the midterm election enters the final stretch, the PNP will be making the necessary adjustments to beef-up election security and law enforcement ope­rations particularly in enforcing the nationwide election gunban and operations against private armed groups, gun-for-hire syndicates and criminal organizations that pose a threat to peaceful polls,” saad ni Albayalde.
