Sinimulan na ng Department of Environment and Natural Resour­ces (DENR) ang paglilinis sa mga watersheds sa buong bansa sa pamamagitan ng pag-shutdown sa lahat ng mining operations na malapit sa lagusan ng tubig.

Sa press conference kahapon, inanunsyo ni Secretary Gina Lopez ang closure order sa 21 mining operations na sumablay sa isinagawa nilang mi­ning audit.

“We have to be very strict sa mga minings na ito na hindi sumusunod sa regulations that’s why we have decided to close any king of mining operation in watersheds dahil very scary and result nito sa ating mga kababayan,” wika ni Lopez.

Sa Zambales, apat na mining firm ang ipinasara ng DENR, ito ang Benguet Corp. Nickel Mines Incorporated, Eramen Minerals Inc., LNL Archipelago Minerals Inc. at Zambales Diversified Metals Corp.

Sa Dinagat Islands naman: AAMPHIL, Oriental Synergy Mining Corp., SinoSteel Phil HY Mining Corp., Kromico, ­Oriental Vision Mining Philippines Corporation, Wellex Mining Corp. at Libjo Mining Corporation.

Surigao del Norte: Adnama Mining Resources Inc., Claver Mineral Development Corp., Hina­tuan Mining, CTP Cons­truction and Mining Corporation, Carrascal Nickel Corporation, Marcventures at Platinum Development Corp.

Homonhon: Mt. Sinai Mining Exploration and Development Corporation, Emir Minerals Corporation at TechIron Mi­neral Resources Inc.

Ayon kay Secretary Lopez, final na ang desisyon ng DENR sa closure order sa 21 mining operations at tanging si Pangulong Rod­rigo Duterte na lamang umano ang makakapag-utos sa kanila na bawiin ito.

Bukod sa mga ipinasara, naglabas din ng suspension order ang DENR laban sa Berong Nickel Corp., OceanaGold Phils Inc., Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company, Citinickel Mines And Development Corp., Strong Built Mining Development Corp. at Ore Asia Mining and Development Corporation.
