Pinay boss tagumpay sa organic shampoo, sabon

Nagsimula lang sa proyekto para sa eczema ng kanyang mga anak, napalago ng isang ina ang mga produkto nitong shampoo bar at iba pang bath product.

Kwento ni Angelica Chongco ng Mayumi Organics, naging mahirap ang pagsisimula niya. Walong taon na umano ang nakalipas nang umalis siya sa trabaho sa isang business process outsourcing (BPO) firm para maalagaan ang mga anak.

“The first 6 months, I enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom and the normal routine [since] BPO workers like me have graveyard schedules to follow US time. Then I started to get bored and looked for something to do while enjoying the best of both worlds – earning while at home,” aniya.

Nagsimula umano siya na mag-resell pero hindi ito naging tagumpay dahil hindi siya marunong magbenta ng mga produkto. Kasunod nito, nag-aral umano siya kung paano gumawa ng sarili niyang produkto, at nakatulong umano dito ang eczema ng anak niyang babae.

“She became my case study. I was able to control her flares [and] being able to tell the story of my successful control of my daughter’s eczema problem, I was able to sell products,” sabi pa ni Chongco.

Nag-ipon umano si Chongco para makapag-aral ng organic skincare formulation at bumiyahe pa sa United Kingdom para dumalo sa mga crash course at pagsasanay.

“That travel to the UK was a gamechanger for me. I came back a whole different person; my soul was on fire!” sabi pa niya.

Naging hamon umano ang halaga at pagkuha ng mga ingredient na kakailangan, kaya nagpokus ito sa paggawa ng sabon, hanggang sa makuha niya ang break sa negosyo noong 2017.

Ang Mayumi Organics ang naging isa sa mga supplier para sa 2017 ASEAN Summit at nakuha ang kontrata para sa 21,000 piraso ng organic soap nito para sa mga souvenir ng mga delegado.

“That was my big break. That time I was actually on the verge of quitting because the sales were so low to none. I have an autistic child and at that time, I was his shadow teacher. I had to be inside the class with him, so I did not have the time anymore for business. But God has different plans for me, it’s as if He told me ‘Do not quit.’ Here’s a big project,” pagbabahagi niya.

Noong 2018 mas lumaki pa ang negosyo ni Chongco nang maging unang brand na nagpakilala ng locally-made na shampoo bar. Sa ngayon, may iba’t ibang produkto na rin ito tulad ng organic dry shampoo, balm, lip scrub, deo bars, at iba pa.

Payo niya sa mga gusto pang magnegosyo, kailangan umano na magkaroon ng entrepreneurial mindset.

“Entrepreneurship is a way of life, a form of discipline. To constantly overcome challenges, make difficult decisions, sacrifices and take ownership of the outcome. To have a constant desire to learn and improve. To not be afraid to fail forward,” sabi pa niya. (PNA)
