AT this point, some
people’s lips are sealed.
But our source says
that Ken Zhou of the F-4 will surely make a movie here. In fact, the
project is now in its pre-production stage.
Adolfo Alix Jr.
quietly went to Batanes with his assistant director and production
designer for an ocular check (to be read: location hunting) of the
island for this movie which bears the initial title Batanes.
Our source tells us
that a producer, who is behind a big movie for the MMFF as
co-producer, is also there in Batanes.
Surely, this is the
mainstream movie I earlier heard Adolf would do. Yes, Batanes
starring Ken Zhou and Iza Calzado. No one talks until filming
begins. That’s a tactful attitude for Adolf’s staff.
Anyway, there is a
new movie. Adolf will be doing before he does Batanes and that’s
the project of a new film producer who owns a nursing school and
review center.
You guess it, the
movie title is Nurses and filming will be done in Manila before
Adolf goes to Batanes. Work on Nurses starts on Sept. 18.
The young filmmaker
has so far done three indie films, Donsol and Kadin for Cinemalaya
and Tambolista for Cinema One Originals to be shown yet in November.

This Piolo Pascual
piece came in five text messages to us. We know this is to plug his
Chopsuey film, but it is well-written and informative that we share
this with you all.
"Piolo is tops
among present crop of matinee idols. Lots of commercial
endorsements, TV soaps being consistent raters, his song album being
certified platinum, a multi-awarded actor, he is dubbed the Princess
of Drama.
"He was a
grandslam best supporting actor for Chito Roño’s movie Dekada ’70
in 2002, a sweep of the awards in MMFF, FAMAS, Urian, Star and Young
Critics Circle.
"For Milan
(Olive Lamasan), he was FAMAS best actor in 2004 as an OFW in search
for his missing wife. This year he is best actor (comedy or musical)
in Golden Screen and Star Awards for Joyce Bernal’s Don’t Give
Up On Us as small town singer dreaming for the city opposite
superstar Judy Ann Santos.
"Multi-awarded
directors have honed Piolo through the years. Like Mel Chionglo in
his movie launch Lagarista which was shown in Toronto and other
legit festivals abroad, Joel Lamangan in Mila, Joey Javier Reyes in
9 Mornings and Maryo J. delos Reyes in I Think I’m In Love.
"Given Piolo’s
stature, taking part in a worthy indie film project is a pleasant
gesture, more so when he plays lead in Chopsuey, a directorial debut
of a friend, Catherine Camarillo, a UP journalism graduate."
P.S.: Piolo did for
Cesar Hernando, Sa Pagkagat ng Dilim, a short film of 17 minutes.
Yul Servo was in it in a small role. That was last year.
Cesar told us last
time that Yul’s participation was unplanned. He was just there
with Piolo that time. "Pinasama ko siya at okey naman sa kanya,
"Cesar said." That was about rebels in the hills."
