WHO would ever believe that a condom issue involving Jean Garcia, daughter Jennica and co-star Mart Escudero would sell a movie, a horror movie at that, like Regal’s Hide and Seek? No one. And no one too was stopping the questions, whether at the tables or the Q-and A portion, that talk like that stretched for hours. Especially when veteran writers like Ka Alfie, Aster Amoyo and Mario Bautista turned historical, recalling the past. The presscon turned most interesting. They remembered Jean at 17, doing her first starring role in Impaktita, for Regal later heavy with child. Anyway, at the long table for all to see, tears didn’t fall and Jean held her cool, surprisingly. With attention being given to the new stars Jennica and Mart, even on a personal note, this Rahyan Carlos horror movie is being given more exposure than if this were sold as just a horror movie. Isn’t this an innovative "gimmick" by accident. Whoever started that blind item deserves a prize instead. *** The Hong Kong director Kant Leung is here to do his job. Cristine Reyes is back at work. And people are happy on the set of Green Paradise, including Cristine who hopes to finish her launching movie in time. Kant Leung at 25 is among the most promising young directors in Hong Kong. He started directing in his early 20s and has been teaching. His credentials are impressive. Even in Mainland China he teaches filmmaking in Wha’s Masters College. He is credited for such films as Violet Cop, Demon Baby, Ultimatum, Romantic Story, The Sisters and Psycho Lady. "I am grateful to be part of the project and to share my experience with Filipinos. I am beginning to enjoy working with Filipino actors and I hope this is just a start. I hope to do more films here," Leung points out. Joel Torre, Rio Locsin and Andrew Schimmer head the cast. *** ‘Being a part of the ASAP Supahdance Album is a big deal for the Wowowee Girls. Luningning, Milagring and Mariposa were pretty jittery before they danced the Upm. Ahh Ahh number included in the album. "Akala namin hanggang Wowowee lang kami," Luningning told us. "Nang hiniram kami sa ASAP kung Linggo, para sa amin, dagdag trabaho lang iyon dahil maraming magaganda at magagaling sa ASAP." Now they feel the excitement that being a part of the big ASAP album for them is real. And then the future in Wowowee and ASAP is big challenge to them. Also part of the ASAP Supahdance is Iya Villania, the U Can Dance Diva, na nagpakita ng kanyang sexy rendition ng Hip Hop Salsa. *** Indeed film director Joel Lamangan has his schedules ironed out and he hopes to be through with his two MMFF 2007 filmfest entries, Desperadas and Bahay Kubo. When his two current films will be in its post production stage. Direk Joel expects to start after a short rest filming in November a new movie. It will be Manoy Po 2 (3 Gays & A Gay) and retains its original cast with a few new names. The cast includes Cherry Pie Picache, Christian Vasquez, Polo Ravales, John Pratts and Jiro Manio.
