Siyam na Filipino street children ang magdadala ng bandera ng bansa sa pagsabak sa first Deloitte Street Child World Cup na sisipa sa March 14-23 sa Durban, South Africa, ang host ng FIFA World Cup finals sa June.

Kasama sa team sina skipper Erica Mae Inocencio, John Robert Gaerlan, Ladylyn Ampe, Noriel Pineones, Mario Titoy, Raymond Ilona, Jayson Simangan, Roberto Orlandez Jr., at Lorelyn Cabanayan. Reserves sina Jonah Garrido at Gerry Boy Joaquino, at sasamahan sila nina coach Jess Landagan, social worker Marivi San Juan, assistant coach James Gates at team manager Craig Burrows.

“Contrary to popular belief, this bunch of young people are no underdogs. They actually have a strong chance of competing against the best in the world,” paniniguro ni Burrows, British Chamber of Commerce director.

Ang ‘best in the world’ na tinutukoy ni Burrows ay ang mga koponan ng Brazil, Ukraine at Tanzania na kasama ng Pinoys sa Group B. Nasa Group A ang India, UK, Nicaragua at host South Africa.

Ayon kay Ed Formoso, team co-manager at kasama ni Burrows bilang organizer, bibiyahe ang Pinoy street kids sa South Africa sa tulong ng Deloitte, Angus Lawson Memorial Trust, Mitre, Whitehouse Scientific, Amos Trust at Amici. Si Formoso rin ang nagpursige para makapunta ang Philippine squad sa Homeless World Cups sa Melbourne at Milan.

Magpapatuloy ang pangangalap ng pondo para sa RP contingent ngayong Sabado sa Howzat Sports Bar sa Jupiter St., Makati.
